The R10 does more for $499.99 than anything else on the market: club path, face angle, 14 metrics, a polished app and simulator play. Its spin is calculated rather than measured, and it needs a deep room indoors, so treat it as a practice tool first.

What it measures
The R10 tracks 14 data points, including ball speed, launch angle, carry, club speed, club path, face angle and attack angle. Like other small radar units, it calculates spin from the other numbers rather than reading the ball, so spin and anything derived from it are estimates.
Independent testers find ball speed and carry close to professional units with mid and long irons and woods. Club data is less consistent with wedges and short irons indoors, where the radar sees only a short slice of the flight.
Room and setup
The R10 sits on its tripod behind the ball, facing the target. Indoors, plan on at least 16 ft from the back wall to the screen so the radar can pick up the ball. Outdoors, there's no limit, which is where it performs best.
Subscription and real cost
Practice data is free in the Garmin Golf app. Simulator play through Home Tee Hero needs a Garmin Golf membership at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Over three years, the R10 costs about $800 with the membership.
What to know before buying
- Calculated spin limits how far you can trust curve and carry on mishits.
- Indoor short-game data is the least reliable part.
- It needs your phone or tablet as a screen.
This review is based on Garmin's published specifications, independent accuracy testing and owner reports, compared against the other launch monitors we track. We'll add our own hitting notes as our testing progresses.
Questions
Does the R10 need a subscription?
Not for practice data. Simulator courses need the Garmin Golf membership at $99.99 a year.
Does the R10 measure spin?
No. It calculates spin from other measurements, which is less accurate than camera-measured spin.
How much room does it need indoors?
About 16 ft from the back wall to the screen, with the unit 6 to 8 ft behind the ball.
